If you were not at fault in a crash and you drive something worth replacing properly, this site explains how to get a like-for-like prestige replacement car in Sydney while yours is repaired. It is written for drivers of Range Rovers, BMW M cars, Mercedes-AMG, Porsche, Tesla and other prestige and performance vehicles, and for the fleet managers, repairers, brokers and solicitors who deal with them. The law in New South Wales is on your side: you are entitled to be put back in the position you were in before the crash, and that includes reasonable loss of use. The High Court confirmed the principle in Arsalan v Rixon, and the at-fault driver's insurer is the one who should bear the reasonable cost of your replacement vehicle.

What makes this site different is the fleet and the way it is hired. The cars are real, photographed, and listed with their base location, minimum driver age, seats, fuel and drivetrain. Most cars can be hired by drivers aged 20 and over, some require 25 or 30. You can collect from the car's base in Mascot, Merrylands, Parramatta or Sefton, or have it delivered to your home, your workplace or the repairer anywhere across Sydney. The bond equals the excess you choose, and paying by bank transfer or cash on the rental avoids the small card surcharge. Every rate, bond and fee is shown on the car's page before you pay, so there are no surprises.

Bookings are fulfilled by Drive Tribe (drivetribe.com.au), the trading name of Australian Business Holdings Pty Ltd, and this site is part of that group. Start with the hub that matches your situation, or browse the fleet at drivetribe.com.au to see what a like-for-like replacement looks like for your car.

Before you book

Do I have to pay for the replacement car if I was not at fault?
No. If another driver caused the crash, the reasonable cost of a like-for-like replacement vehicle is recoverable from the at-fault driver's insurer. You hire the car now, and the cost is claimed from the insurer. You do not pay the daily rate yourself. If the insurer disputes liability or the rate, that is a matter between the hire provider and the insurer, not something that lands on you. The rate, the bond and every fee are shown on the car's page before you pay, so you can see exactly what is being claimed.
What does like-for-like actually mean?
Like-for-like means a replacement that is broadly equivalent to the car you lost the use of, not a smaller or cheaper car that merely gets you moving. Equivalence looks at size, body type, seating, prestige, performance and the impression the car makes. A Range Rover driver is entitled to a comparable large luxury SUV, not a compact hatch. If your exact model is unavailable, a car of similar class and standing is the reasonable substitute. The insurer may push a lower tier; that is a common tactic, and the law does not require you to accept it.
How long can I keep the replacement car?
You can keep it for the reasonable period your own car is off the road, which usually runs from the day of the crash until repairs are finished or the vehicle is settled as a write-off. For prestige cars, parts delays can stretch that period, and the replacement should continue while the delay is reasonable. Keep records of repairer updates and insurer correspondence. If the insurer argues the period is too long, the timeline evidence is what supports the claim. Talk to a solicitor if a dispute about duration looks likely.
What do I need to bring to collect the car?
Bring your current Australian driver licence, and be ready to verify your identity with a trusted third-party provider before the booking is confirmed. You will also need the details of the crash, including the other driver's name, insurer and claim number if you have them, and photos of the damage. If the car is being delivered, have the same documents ready at the delivery address. The minimum driver age is 20 on most cars, with some requiring 25 or 30, so check the car's page before you book.
What if the at-fault driver's insurer disputes the claim?
Insurers dispute hire claims for a range of reasons, including liability, the rate charged, the length of hire or the equivalence of the car. The hire provider deals with the insurer on those points, and you are not left holding the daily rate while they argue. Keep your paperwork, respond to reasonable requests for information, and if the dispute drags on or becomes legal in nature, get advice from a solicitor who handles credit hire and not-at-fault claims. The key is that the dispute is about recovery, not about your right to be mobile.
Can I hire a replacement car if my own car is a write-off?
Yes. If your car is declared a statutory write-off, you can generally keep a like-for-like replacement until the claim is settled and you have had a reasonable chance to replace the vehicle. The insurer may offer a cash settlement instead of repairing, and that settlement should reflect the market value of your car. Keep the replacement until you have the funds and a new car lined up. If the offer looks low, get independent advice before accepting, and talk to your accountant or solicitor about the tax and legal side.
Do you deliver the replacement car, and where?
Yes. Delivery is available across Sydney, including to your home, your workplace or the repairer handling your car. Common delivery areas include the Eastern Suburbs, Inner West, North Shore, Northern Beaches, Hills, Parramatta, Western Sydney, Liverpool, Penrith, Sutherland Shire, Wollongong and the Central Coast. You can also collect from the car's base in Mascot, Merrylands, Parramatta or Sefton. Delivery is arranged when you book, and the details are confirmed before the handover so you know where and when to expect the car.
What payment methods do you accept, and what does the bond cover?
You can pay by bank transfer or cash on the rental, and neither carries a surcharge. Paying by card carries a small surcharge. The bond equals the excess you choose when you book, so if you select a higher excess the bond is higher, and if you select a lower excess the bond is lower. The bond is held against the excess, not against the hire rate, and it is returned according to the terms shown on the car's page. Every rate, bond and fee is displayed before payment so you can plan for it.
